There’s an annual event on the first Sunday in June hosted by the Riverview Health Centre Foundation that has evolved into a highly anticipated reunion of participants who bring new supporters every year. The event is the Riverview Health Centre Cycle on Life, and on Sunday, June 6, 2010, the Foundation will be ready for the 12th year of this fun-filled day.

Participants in the Cycle on Life work in teams to raise a minimum of $1000 in pledges for riding one of two routes: a 15 kilometer leisurely ride on a scenic route along the Red River, or an adventure ride – dubbed Gord’s Ski and Bike Trail Ride – through off-road paths. After an exhilarating cycle, all participants enjoy a champagne brunch back at the Centre.

So far, the Cycle on Life has raised an amazing $700,000 in profit. The proceeds go towards specific projects that enhance the quality of life for patients and residents at Riverview. In 2008 and 2009, the money raised is being used to support the province’s newly enhanced Rehabilitation Services located at the Centre. Projects from past years include a new Conservatory and furnishings, the construction of walkways and the modernization of the Centre’s hydro-therapy pool. 2010 Fundraising will go towards renovating all of Riverview's bathing facilities.

While most riders in the Cycle on Life register in advance, onsite registration starts at 8:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start time on the day of the event. For more information about becoming a rider or a sponsor for the 2010 Cycle of Life, call the Foundation at 478-6271.
